FAQ

  • What is Person Centred Counselling?

Person Centred Counselling is a talking therapy. It is lead by whatever you would like to bring to the session, you are in control. I will offer you a safe, confidential, non-judgmental environment to explore freely what is on your mind. Each session will last 50 minutes.

  • Is everything I say confidential?

Everything you say is confidential, there are only a couple of instances when I would have to break confidentiality, these are criminal offences such as terrorism, drug trafficking or money laundering. Confidentiality may also be broken in an instance of safeguarding, this is when I may be concerned that you are risk of harm to yourself or others, I would discuss this with you first.

  • How is my private information kept safe?

In line with current general date protection legislation GDPR, your private information will be kept safe in an encrypted file or folder. Any hard copies will be kept in a locked folder. You can request these files at any time. More detail will be available with the Privacy Notice within our working agreement.

  • Do we have a contract?

Yes, after our initial consultation I will send you a copy of our contract, this is not legally binding but will cover all information with regards to our working agreement between client and counsellor. I will ask you for signed copy which will be kept safely under GDPR regulations.

  • How do I book and pay for my sessions?

You can book your sessions with me via phone or email, we will agree a weekly session at a time that suits both of us. I require payment 24 hours prior to each session via BACS.

  • What if I change my mind or don't feel its right for me after we have started?

This is absolutely fine, counselling I believe has to be entered freely and not under duress. Counselling can be for a fixed period agreed between us or it can be open ended. If feelings are uncomfortable or there is a sense of unease this might be something we can discuss if we both feel it is safe to do so.

  • What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Essentially they are one and the same. Some people recognise it as counselling and some psychotherapy or just therapy.

  • What is the cancellation policy or if I am late?

There is a 24 hour notice period if either of us have to cancel our session. Holidays and breaks can be disclosed in advance. Lateness can happen, but if either one of us has an emergency or is going to be late a courtesy call can be made.

  • Is it a fixed fee?

Each session of 50 minutes is charged at £60.00. Concessions can be made for students, or lower income households. I would be happy to discuss this during our consultation.

  • What is the difference between counselling and wellbeing advice?

I can also offer a 40 min session for £40.00 on health and wellbeing holistic advice. I use low level CBT interventions, tools and Psychoeducation. These sessions can be at the beginning or the end of your counselling sessions, or at a completely different time. If this is of interest we can discuss it within our first phone call.

  • Where are you based and what access is available?

I am based in a private self contained office just outside of Winchester centre, just off the A34 and M4. There is free parking available. Access is via steps. I'm sorry to say that for now I do not have wheelchair access or limited mobility access. Perhaps we can discuss the possibility of online counselling.
